A house born from passion and curiosity
It was at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, in the heart of Paris, that Diptyque was founded in 1961. Behind this legendary address were three artists with complementary sensibilities: Christiane Gautrot, interior designer; Desmond Knox-Leet, painter; and Yves Coueslant, theater set designer. Their boutique, initially dedicated to fabrics and decorative objects, quickly became an eclectic space where visual arts, travel, and sensory inspirations intersected.
In 1963, Diptyque revolutionized the home fragrance world with a simple yet visionary idea: to create exceptional scented candles. Then, in 1968, it launched its first perfume, simply named L'Eau. The tone was set: to tell stories through fragrance, with imagination, refinement, and freedom.
A house guided by emotion, art and nature
From its inception, Diptyque has cultivated a unique vision of luxury: one of emotion, memory, and understated beauty. Its creations draw inspiration from a rich sensory world, encompassing wild nature, distant landscapes, antique perfume bottles, and oriental libraries. Nothing is static; everything is a source of wonder.
Diptyque fragrances do more than just smell good: they evoke. They whisper of moments, places, sensations. They are echoes of a sensitive memory, translated into perfumes, objects, and atmospheres.
A sincere and lasting commitment
Craftsmanship is at the heart of Diptyque's approach. The candles are made in France, using exacting techniques: each wick is centered by hand, and each wax blend is meticulously measured. The fragrances are composed with premium raw materials, in collaboration with renowned perfumers.
Aware of environmental challenges, the company is committed to a virtuous dynamic: eco-design of products, recyclable packaging, ethical partnerships… A way of life that respects both people, nature and the long term.
Three iconic perfumes to discover at Maison Diaphane
-
Philosykos – Eau de Toilette
A tribute to the fig tree, in all its richness: the green leaf, the white sap, the woody bark. A Mediterranean scent, sunny and soothing. -
Fleur de Peau – Eau de Parfum
A delicate musk, caressed by ambrette and iris. Sensual, soft and powdery, this fragrance evokes clean, bare skin in its most intimate beauty. -
Do Son – Eau de Toilette
An olfactory journey to Vietnam, the cradle of Yves Coueslant's childhood memories. Tuberose mingles with sea breezes and spices in a voluptuous breath.
Iconic items for the home
At Diptyque , fragrance transcends the bottle: it becomes an atmosphere, an invisible companion, a delicate imprint in the air. The house has developed a complete olfactory universe to enhance interiors, with candles, diffusers, and sprays available in its most iconic scents:
- Berries – The fruity freshness of red berries, softened by the tenderness of rose. A balanced, luminous, delicately floral scent.
- Roses – A natural and fresh rose, like a bouquet picked on a May morning. Transparent, light, spring-like.
- Tuberose – Sensual and enveloping, tuberose diffuses a powerful, almost hypnotic trail. A captivating flower.
- Fig tree – A whole fig tree in the southern light: green leaves, soft wood, milky sap. A vegetal and comforting fragrance.
- Amber – Resins, vanilla, precious woods… A warm, amber scent that envelops the space in a soft halo.
- Wood Fire – An invisible fireplace fire. Smoky wood, soft ashes, diffused warmth. Perfect for winter.
- 34 Boulevard Saint Germain – The very essence of the house: a complex and elegant composition, between mosses, spices, flowers and mystery.
