Naomi Goodsir is an Australian milliner trained in Sydney and London, now based in France with her atelier of sculptural couture hats — recognized by Vogue Italia in 2015, collaborating with Kanye West and Amanda Harlech. Her perfumery reflects her image: artisanal, demanding, with no concession to easy seduction. Bois d'Ascèse, composed by Julien Rasquinet and handcrafted near Grasse, is the most direct demonstration of this.
The opening is restrained — Italian mandarin and angelica unfurl in a delicate, slightly herbaceous, almost filtered light that doesn't seek to shine. Then, the smoke slowly appears: oliban incense in its most resinous and dry facets, blond tobacco slightly honeyed and lightly smoky, whiskey in its malty and slightly alcoholic dimension — a heart accord of remarkable density and uniqueness. And the base is anchored in the driest material — slightly tarry and smoky cade wood, elegant and dry cedar, slightly earthy oakmoss, discreet musk that prolongs the sillage with restraint.
