Corpus Equus — "body of the horse" in Latin. Naomi Goodsir doesn't seek metaphor: the title accurately describes what the fragrance does. Composed by Bertrand Duchaufour, one of the most respected perfumers of his generation, creator of animalic and woody compositions of rare density, this woody leather opens without preamble in the most direct and carnal material of the entire collection.
Leather, incense, musk, and patchouli assert themselves right from the opening with remarkable tension and immediacy — not a sweet or polished leather, but a vibrant, almost warm leather, laced with slightly resinous incense and subtly earthy patchouli. At its heart, a dark rose briefly interjects — a dark and slightly powdery floral facet that emerges within the material without truly softening it. And the base returns to leather, amplified by smoke: slightly tarry birch, deep smoked wood, dry cedar, warm amber — an accord of exceptional density and persistence, lingering on the skin long after application.
