Naomi Goodsir explores leather in two opposite directions. Corpus Equus is taut, animalic, radical. Cuir Velours is its exact counterpoint — soft, warm, enveloping. Composed by Julien Rasquinet and handcrafted near Grasse by the Australian milliner based in France, it doesn't try to impose itself: it settles, like a material you touch before you smell it.
Cardamom and coriander open with a light, almost airy spicy freshness — a delicate entry that quickly fades to let warmth take over. In the heart, immortelle unfurls its slightly honeyed and slightly curry facets, with a characteristic golden light. Rum brings a slightly sweet, liquor-like depth, and cistus labdanum a resinous and slightly amber dimension that begins to build the base. And the base settles into the softest, most hushed sweetness — softened and worked leather, slightly honeyed and smoky blond tobacco, slightly balsamic and resinous myrrh — a present and long-lasting sillage, intimate rather than demonstrative.

What's the difference from Corpus Equus?
Corpus Equus is a radical, animalic, and frontal leather — it imposes itself from the opening and never truly softens. Cuir Velours is its exact opposite: the leather only appears in the base, softened by immortelle, rum, and myrrh. It's a leather that is gradually discovered, revealing itself upon contact with the skin rather than imposing itself. One is tension, the other is warmth.
What is immortelle?
Immortelle — or helichrysum — is a Mediterranean flower whose essential oil has very particular facets: slightly honeyed, slightly curry, slightly golden. It's a rare and highly prized note in niche perfumery for its ability to give a warm and luminous color to compositions. In Cuir Velours, it gives the heart its distinctive luminosity.
Is the blond tobacco in the base very present?
No — it's discreet and hushed, combined with leather and myrrh in a very integrated base accord. It brings a slight smoky and slightly honeyed depth that gives the base its longevity without ever dominating the composition.
