Additional information

Parfum d'Empire embodies a sensual and spiritual niche perfumery, where each creation explores eroticism and the sacred. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor of plant chemistry, crafts powerful and baroque compositions. The house distinguishes itself through the richness of its raw materials and a radically free olfactory style. Between raw sensuality and French balance, each fragrance becomes an intimate conquest. Parfum d'Empire is controlled excess, the empire of the senses rediscovered.

A wasteland in mid-summer. Fleabane, nettle, thistle, elecampane.
A scent that smells of wild nature – not a garden.

Mal-Aimé is one of the names peasants once gave to wild plants that no one cultivated – those that grow in wastelands, along roadsides, and in abandoned lots. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, makes it the subject of a radically singular composition – perhaps the most botanical and free in his catalog. Where contemporary niche perfumery multiplies roses and musks, Mal-Aimé chooses nettle, thistle, fleabane, and elecampane. The plants no one ever chooses – and which are, once encountered in a bottle, absolutely unforgettable.

In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a vegetal and subtly fruity freshness of immediate precision. Fleabane and blackberry establish a slightly camphorated and subtly fruity vibrancy – fleabane with its herbaceous and subtly floral facets perceived in summer fields, blackberry bringing a slightly tart and subtly vegetal fruity note that gives the opening its light. Nettle, thistle, and fleabane then arrive at the heart in a vegetal material of remarkable singularity and botanical precision – nettle slightly chlorophyll-like and subtly pungent in its olfactory dimension, thistle dry and slightly earthy, fleabane weaving through the entire composition like a continuous vegetal thread. It's a heart that isn't immediately recognizable, but intuitively identifiable – this sensation of a living plant under the sun, of a slightly resinous stem between the fingers. Iris root, fleabane, and elecampane settle into the base in a rooty, slightly marine, and subtly musky material of remarkable depth and persistence. Elecampane – a plant from the Asteraceae family, with subtly marine, salty, and camphorated facets – is the absolute signature of this base, the note that is not named but recognized as something unique and profoundly natural. Mal-Aimé demonstrates that ignored plants are often the most precious.

Mal-Aimé is the fragrance for those who know that the rarest things often grow where no one looks.

A word from Maison Diaphane

Mal-Aimé is the Parfum d'Empire fragrance that surprises the most – and divides the most. Its vegetal and botanically precise composition is the antithesis of everything one expects from a niche perfume. The elecampane in the base is the note one doesn't recognize yet cannot forget. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, with his background as a doctor in plant chemistry, has crafted something here that no other perfumer would have dared – an olfactory tribute to the plants everyone ignores, which only he knew how to make irresistible.

Learn more about Mal-Aimé +

Mal-Aimé Eau de Parfum by Parfum d'Empire is an aromatic unisex fragrance created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato – independent perfumer, doctor in plant chemistry, and founder of Parfum d'Empire. Its composition, entirely built around wild plants – fleabane, nettle, thistle, elecampane – recreates with remarkable botanical precision the wild vegetation of wastelands and abandoned lots. Available at Maison Diaphane, official retailer in Angers, for €132. Free delivery from €100 (in France).

Its olfactory pyramid is structured around a vegetal, herbaceous, and absolutely singular botanical nettle-thistle-fleabane heart, preceded by a fresh and subtly fruity fleabane-blackberry opening, and extended by a rooty, slightly marine, and persistent iris root-elecampane-fleabane base. In Eau de Parfum, the composition unfolds its full vegetal precision and lasts 5 to 7 hours.

Mal-Aimé is an aromatic green and wild fragrance of exceptional botanical singularity with a noticeable sillage, ideal for spring and summer, worn by both women and men.

What is fleabane and why does it run through the entire composition?

Fleabane – Erigeron – is a wild herbaceous plant that colonizes wastelands, roadsides, and abandoned lots. Its olfactory facets are slightly camphorated, subtly floral, and subtly vegetal – recognizable to those who have walked through summer fields, impossible to name precisely for others. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato uses it at all three stages of the pyramid – top, heart, and base – as a continuous vegetal thread that unifies the entire composition. It is what gives Mal-Aimé its unique and continuous identity.

What is elecampane and what is its role in the base?

Elecampane – Inula helenium, also called horse-heal – is a large herbaceous plant from the Asteraceae family with very aromatic roots. In perfumery, its facets are slightly marine, subtly salty, subtly camphorated, and subtly musky – an almost unique combination that simultaneously evokes earth and sea, plant and seashore. It is the rarest and most signature material of Mal-Aimé, the one that distinguishes this base from all conventional vegetal aromatics.

Nettle and thistle – how do prickly plants become a fragrance?

In perfumery, it is not the physical effects of plants that matter – it is their olfactory profile. Fresh nettle has slightly chlorophyll-like and subtly herbaceous facets, similar to tomato leaf but greener and less acidic. Thistle is drier and subtly more earthy, with a subtly resinous dimension. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, with his background in plant chemistry, uses them not for their prickles but for their vegetal precision – two notes almost never encountered in perfumery that give the heart its absolute singularity.

What season is Mal-Aimé made for?

Mainly spring and summer – the wild vegetation it evokes thrives with warmth and light. It is an outdoor fragrance, for nature walks, for bright days away from cities. In autumn, its rooty and slightly marine dimension gives it a depth suitable for cooler days. It is fundamentally a fragrance of living nature and bright seasons.
