Tonkin musk is one of the most legendary and inaccessible materials in perfumery — an animal secretion from the musk deer of Tonkin, a region in northern Vietnam, with animalic, carnal, and slightly salty facets of unparalleled depth and persistence. Protected by the CITES convention since the 1980s, it can no longer be used directly in perfumery. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, pays homage to it without imitating it — an evocation, not a reconstruction. A composition built around the idea of animal musk in its most carnal and lived-in form.

In this Extrait de Parfum, the composition opens with a luminous and slightly golden warmth. The solar accord, warm honey, and candied fruits create an amber and subtly sweet softness — warm, enveloping, almost edible in its generosity. Honey in perfumery is not culinary honey — it is a waxy, slightly animalic material with subtle floral facets that give the opening a particular texture and immediate warmth. Melted leather, floral notes, and woodland moss then arrive at the heart in a dense, wild material of remarkable sensuality and depth — melted leather, soft and slightly smoky, which integrates with the honey rather than contrasting it, woodland moss with its discreet forest humidity. Black amber, the evocation of Tonkin musk, and a salty trace settle in the base, providing an animalic and slightly marine depth of exceptional persistence and magnetism — black amber, darker and warmer than conventional amber, and the salty trace that gives the composition that naked, slightly damp skin dimension which is the signature of great musks.
