The opening is fine and transparent — yuzu flower and tea, delicate, slightly fresh, almost silent. Ginger and rice powder arrive in the heart with a gentle, slightly spicy, slightly powdery warmth that gives the composition its texture. And the base settles in filigree — wood and cade, that oxycedrus juniper wood with slightly smoky and tarry facets that brings Phantasma its discreet depth and singularity. What is cade?
Cade — oxycedrus juniper — is a Mediterranean shrub whose essential oil, extracted by dry distillation, has slightly smoky, slightly tarry, and slightly medicinal facets. In perfumery, it brings a very distinctive woody-smoky depth, different from cedarwood or vetiver. It's the note that gives Phantasma its slightly unexpected character.
How does it differ from Melancolia?
Melancolia is vegetal and herbaceous — mint, lemongrass, laurel. Phantasma is airy and slightly smoky — tea, yuzu, cade. Both are minimalist, but in opposite directions: one smells like a garden, the other like a tea ceremony.
