Promise is what Ropion wanted to explore next — a different rose, more oriental, more animalic, even more carnal. Not a variation of Portrait of a Lady. An opposite direction, deliberately chosen by the same perfumer. Where Portrait of a Lady builds a woody and deep rose, Promise builds an oriental and vibrant rose — pulsating, almost organic.
In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with immediate complexity. Apple, rosemary, pink pepper, saffron, and clove create a fruity, spicy, and slightly medicinal opening — a tension between freshness and warmth that prepares the rose for its entrance. The two roses — Bulgarian and Turkish — arrive at the heart in an accord of unique richness and precision, each bringing its own facet: the Bulgarian rose more delicate and honeyed, the Turkish rose more carnal and spicy. Then cypriol, patchouli, castoreum, cistus, and ambroxan settle in the base in an animalic and resinous depth of exceptional persistence. Promise does not yield. It deepens.

Its olfactive pyramid revolves around a double Bulgarian-Turkish rose heart of unique richness and precision, preceded by a complex and spicy apple-rosemary-saffron-pink pepper-clove opening, and prolonged by a deeply animalic and resinous cypriol-patchouli-castoreum-cistus-ambroxan base. Why two roses — Bulgarian and Turkish — in the same composition?
Bulgarian rose and Turkish rose are two different absolutes with complementary facets. Bulgarian rose is more delicate, slightly honeyed, with a characteristic floral freshness. Turkish rose is more carnal, spicy, with a more animalic depth. Ropion combines them to build a three-dimensional rose that neither could produce alone.
Is castoreum of animal origin?
Natural castoreum is of animal origin — it comes from beaver glands. In contemporary perfumery, it is systematically replaced by synthetic reconstitutions that reproduce its leathery, slightly smoky, and animalic facets without resorting to animals. The castoreum in Promise is a synthetic reconstitution.
