Scandola is one of the most preserved natural reserves in the Mediterranean — a UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible only by sea, with its red rhyolite cliffs, sea caves, dry maquis, and impossibly blue water. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, didn't want to create just another marine fragrance. He wanted to reproduce a specific place, in its geographical and sensory truth — not the abstract idea of the sea, but that particular moment when you step onto warm rock and the wind simultaneously brings salt, maquis, and iodine.
In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a sharp and slightly vegetal vibrancy. Lemon, basil, aldehydes, and artemisia establish an incisive and slightly camphorated freshness — clean, bright, with that slightly wild dimension that artemisia always brings. Then the landscape settles into the heart. The aquatic accord, seaweed, green notes, juniper, geranium, and raspberry leaf compose an olfactory space of remarkable precision and consistency — not a synthetic marine accord, but the superposition of several plant and mineral elements that together produce this sensation of a dry, iodized coastline, of maquis close to the water. Oakmoss, immortelle, patchouli, and hyrax settle in the base in a substance of exceptional depth and singularity. Hyrax — an extremely rare animal secretion from the rock hyrax, with slightly animalic and earthy facets — is Marc-Antoine Corticchiato's absolute signature in this perfume. It gives the base an organic and slightly wild dimension that no synthetic material can reproduce. Acqua di Scandola does not close on sweetness. It closes on rock.
