Parfum d'Empire embodies a sensual and spiritual niche perfumery, where each creation explores eroticism and the sacred. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor of plant chemistry, crafts powerful and baroque compositions. The house distinguishes itself through the richness of its raw materials and a radically free olfactory style. Between raw sensuality and French balance, each fragrance becomes an intimate conquest. Parfum d'Empire is controlled excess, the empire of the senses rediscovered.
The Scandola reserve. Heated rock, salty wind, iodized maquis. A scent that smells of a place — not an idea of a place.
Scandola is one of the most preserved natural reserves in the Mediterranean — a UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible only by sea, with its red rhyolite cliffs, sea caves, dry maquis, and impossibly blue water. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, didn't want to create just another marine fragrance. He wanted to reproduce a specific place, in its geographical and sensory truth — not the abstract idea of the sea, but that particular moment when you step onto warm rock and the wind simultaneously brings salt, maquis, and iodine.
In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a sharp and slightly vegetal vibrancy. Lemon, basil, aldehydes, and artemisia establish an incisive and slightly camphorated freshness — clean, bright, with that slightly wild dimension that artemisia always brings. Then the landscape settles into the heart. The aquatic accord, seaweed, green notes, juniper, geranium, and raspberry leaf compose an olfactory space of remarkable precision and consistency — not a synthetic marine accord, but the superposition of several plant and mineral elements that together produce this sensation of a dry, iodized coastline, of maquis close to the water. Oakmoss, immortelle, patchouli, and hyrax settle in the base in a substance of exceptional depth and singularity. Hyrax — an extremely rare animal secretion from the rock hyrax, with slightly animalic and earthy facets — is Marc-Antoine Corticchiato's absolute signature in this perfume. It gives the base an organic and slightly wild dimension that no synthetic material can reproduce. Acqua di Scandola does not close on sweetness. It closes on rock.
Acqua di Scandola is the scent for those who know that the most beautiful places in the world are like no other — and who want to wear them.
Acqua di Scandola is the Parfum d'Empire fragrance we recommend to those looking for a truly unique marine scent — not a synthetic aquatic accord, but a real landscape transposed with remarkable botanical precision. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, a doctor in plant chemistry, creates a composition here that smells of rock, maquis, and iodine with an authenticity almost never found in a niche perfume. The hyrax in the base is the note that changes everything — that animalic and slightly earthy dimension that anchors the lightness of the heart in something organic and profound.
Acqua di Scandola Eau de Parfum by Parfum d'Empire is a unisex marine citrus fragrance created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato — an independent perfumer, doctor in plant chemistry, and founder of Parfum d'Empire. Inspired by the Scandola Natural Reserve in Corsica, a UNESCO World Heritage site, it recreates with remarkable botanical precision the olfactory landscape of this rare place — rock, maquis, seaweed, and immortelle. Available at Maison Diaphane, official retailer in Angers, for €122. Free delivery from €100 (in France).
Its olfactory pyramid is built around a marine, iodized, and vegetal aquatic accord-seaweed-juniper-green notes heart, preceded by a fresh and slightly camphorated lemon-basil-artemisia-aldehydes opening, and prolonged by an organic and slightly animalic hyrax-immortelle-oakmoss-patchouli base. In Eau de Parfum, the composition unfolds all its olfactory precision of landscape and lasts 4 to 6 hours.
Acqua di Scandola is a mineral and organic marine citrus fragrance with a subtle sillage, ideal for spring and summer, worn by both women and men.
What is the Scandola Reserve and what is its connection to this fragrance?
Scandola is a natural reserve in Corsica, a UNESCO World Heritage site — accessible only by sea, with its red rhyolite cliffs, sea caves, dry maquis, and exceptionally clear water. It is one of the most preserved Mediterranean landscapes in the world. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, born in Corsica, wanted to recreate its precise olfactory atmosphere — not a generic sea, but this particular place where warm rock, iodized maquis, and the sea overlap in a unique composition.
What is hyrax and why is it so rare in perfumery?
The rock hyrax — Procavia capensis — is a small mammal living on rocks in Africa and the Middle East. It produces a natural secretion with slightly animalic, slightly earthy, and slightly musky facets — similar to castoreum or civet in its animalic dimension, but more mineral and wild. It is one of the rarest animal materials used in niche perfumery. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is one of the contemporary perfumers who use it with the most mastery — it appears as a signature in several Parfum d'Empire compositions.
Who is Marc-Antoine Corticchiato and what is Parfum d'Empire?
Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is an independent perfumer of Corsican origin, a doctor in plant chemistry — a rare scientific background in niche perfumery. He founded Parfum d'Empire in 2003 with a precise vision: a baroque, sensual, and spiritual perfumery that explores eroticism and the sacred without compromise. His compositions are known for their richness in natural raw materials and their radically free style, balancing controlled excess and French elegance.
What season is Acqua di Scandola for?
Spring and summer primarily — its mineral freshness and marine lightness flourish with warmth and light. It is an outdoor fragrance, for bright days, by the sea or in the countryside. In mild autumn, it can still be worn with the same fresh elegance. It is fundamentally a fragrance for bright seasons.
