Additional information

Parfum d'Empire embodies a sensual and spiritual niche perfumery, where each creation explores eroticism and the sacred. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor of plant chemistry, crafts powerful and baroque compositions. The house distinguishes itself through the richness of its raw materials and a radically free olfactory style. Between raw sensuality and French balance, each fragrance becomes an intimate conquest. Parfum d'Empire is controlled excess, the empire of the senses rediscovered.

A night in Istanbul. Candied fruits, smoke, flesh.
A fragrance that burns slowly — and leaves its mark.

Pierre Loti wrote Aziyadé in 1879 — the story of an impossible love between a French officer and a Circassian slave in the streets of Istanbul. A tale of forbidden desire, dreamed-of Orient, sensuality, and loss. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, makes it the most carnal and baroque composition in his catalogue. Aziyadé is not a perfume that seeks to please the many — it is a perfume that seeks those who can wear it.

In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a fruity and spicy generosity of immediate richness. Pomegranate, orange, candied dates, prunes, cardamom, ginger, and cumin build an opulent and slightly fermented oriental opening — sweet, spicy, slightly animalic in its very ripe fruit dimension. Ceylon cinnamon, raw Indian patchouli, tobacco, and carob then arrive at the heart in a dense, burning material of remarkable sensuality and depth. Raw Indian patchouli — not stripped of its heavy compounds like fractionated patchouli — is here earthy, dense, almost animalic. Dry and slightly leathery tobacco. Carob with its chocolatey and slightly smoky facets. Ceylon cinnamon — softer and more complex than Chinese cinnamon — envelops the whole in a burning and sensual warmth. Arabian frankincense, cistus absolute, vanilla, and animal musks settle in the base with a sacred and slightly animalic depth of exceptional persistence and magnetism. Aziyadé doesn't apologize. It settles in — deeply, lastingly, like experiences one doesn't seek to forget.

Aziyadé is the perfume for those who know that the most intense sensuality is always the one that settles slowly — and never leaves.

A word from Maison Diaphane

Aziyadé is the Parfum d'Empire fragrance we recommend to those looking for a truly radical oriental — not a safe, domesticated oriental. The raw Indian patchouli at its heart is of a density and sensuality rarely found in contemporary niche perfumery. The animal musks in the base are of a magnetic depth. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato signs here a composition that does not belong to its time — it belongs to baroque perfumery in its most radical and beautiful form.

Learn more about Aziyadé +

Aziyadé Eau de Parfum by Parfum d'Empire is a unisex amber fragrance created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato — independent perfumer, doctor in plant chemistry, and founder of Parfum d'Empire. Inspired by Pierre Loti's autobiographical novel (1879), it explores oriental sensuality in its most baroque and carnal dimension — candied fruits, raw patchouli, tobacco, Arabian frankincense, and animal musks in a composition of exceptional depth and persistence. Available at Maison Diaphane, official retailer in Angers, for €143. Free delivery from €100 (in France).

Its olfactory pyramid revolves around a dense, carnal, and burning Ceylon cinnamon-raw patchouli-tobacco-carob heart, preceded by a generous and slightly fermented candied fruit-spice opening, and extended by a deep, sacred, and magnetic Arabian frankincense-cistus absolute-animal musks base. In Eau de Parfum, the composition unfolds all its baroque oriental sensuality and a longevity of 10 to 12 hours.

Aziyadé is a carnal and baroque oriental amber fragrance with an intense sillage, ideal for evenings and cold seasons, worn equally well by women and men.

What is the connection with Pierre Loti's novel Aziyadé?

Aziyadé is Pierre Loti's first novel, published in 1879 — an autobiographical account of his love for a Circassian slave met in Thessaloniki and then Istanbul during his stay as a French naval officer. It is a story of a dreamed and lost Orient, of sensuality and impossibility. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato makes it a faithful olfactive transposition — the candied fruits of the bazaars, the incense of the mosques, the tobacco of the hookahs, and the warmth of bodies on an Istanbul night.

What is raw Indian patchouli and how does it differ from ordinary patchouli?

Raw Indian patchouli is patchouli in its most natural state — not stripped of its heavy compounds by fractionation or rectification. It is earthy, dense, slightly animalic, and slightly fermented, much more intensely fragrant than the purified versions used in mainstream perfumery. In Aziyadé, it gives the heart its carnal and deep organic dimension — that raw sensuality that no modified patchouli can reproduce.

What is carob in perfumery and what is its role in Aziyadé?

Carob — the fruit of the Mediterranean carob tree — has slightly chocolatey, slightly smoky, and slightly sweet facets, similar to cocoa but more rustic and earthy. In perfumery, it brings a dark and slightly smoky sweetness that complements tobacco and patchouli in oriental compositions. In Aziyadé, it enhances the carnal and slightly edible dimension of the heart without ever tipping into sugary gourmandise.

Which season is Aziyadé for?

Autumn and winter exclusively, and all evenings without exception. Its dense warmth and carnal depth blossom with cold and night. It is a fragrance for grand occasions, memorable evenings, and dark interiors. In summer or during the day, its intensity can seem overwhelming — it is fundamentally a fragrance of embers and nocturnal velvet.
