Pierre Loti wrote Aziyadé in 1879 — the story of an impossible love between a French officer and a Circassian slave in the streets of Istanbul. A tale of forbidden desire, dreamed-of Orient, sensuality, and loss. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, makes it the most carnal and baroque composition in his catalogue. In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a fruity and spicy generosity of immediate richness. Pomegranate, orange, candied dates, prunes, cardamom, ginger, and cumin build an opulent and slightly fermented oriental opening — sweet, spicy, slightly animalic in its very ripe fruit dimension. Ceylon cinnamon, raw Indian patchouli, tobacco, and carob then arrive at the heart in a dense, burning material of remarkable sensuality and depth. Raw Indian patchouli — not stripped of its heavy compounds like fractionated patchouli — is here earthy, dense, almost animalic. Dry and slightly leathery tobacco. Carob with its chocolatey and slightly smoky facets. Ceylon cinnamon — softer and more complex than Chinese cinnamon — envelops the whole in a burning and sensual warmth.
