Additional information

Parfum d'Empire embodies a sensual and spiritual niche perfumery, where each creation explores eroticism and the sacred. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, an independent perfumer and doctor of plant chemistry, crafts powerful and baroque compositions. The house distinguishes itself through the richness of its raw materials and a radically free olfactory style. Between raw sensuality and French balance, each fragrance becomes an intimate conquest. Parfum d'Empire is controlled excess, the empire of the senses rediscovered.

A smoke that turns into silence.
Frankincense from Somalia, myrrh from Kenya, opoponax from Ethiopia — a woody and resinous prayer.

There are perfumes that soothe. Not those that sweeten, not those that flatter — but those that go deep and stay there. Wazamba by Parfum d'Empire is one of them. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, independent perfumer and doctor in plant chemistry, founder of Parfum d'Empire, builds here a composition entirely dedicated to resins and incenses from the Horn of Africa and India — natural raw materials of a quality and geographical precision that transform this perfume into something that transcends perfumery to touch the ritual.

In this Eau de Parfum concentration, the composition opens with a dry and slightly fruity vivacity of great precision. Somali frankincense, cypress, red apple, and aldehydes establish a resinous and slightly luminous freshness — Somali frankincense in its unburnt version, with slightly citrusy, slightly woody, and slightly earthy facets that give the opening a dry and vibrant clarity. Cypress brings a slightly woody and slightly medicinal dimension, red apple a slight fruity sweetness, aldehydes a slight aerial luminosity. Kenyan myrrh, olibanum resin, cistus labdanum, and plum then arrive in the heart in a resinous, dense, and slightly smoky material of remarkable depth and complexity. Kenyan myrrh — among the purest in the world, with particularly pronounced balsamic and slightly bitter facets — is the central material of this heart. Olibanum amplifies and elevates, labdanum brings its amber warmth and slightly animalic touch, plum a slight fruity sweetness that prevents the accord from ever seeming austere. Ethiopian opoponax, resins, Indian sandalwood, and a fern accord settle in the base in a woody, soft, and enveloping warmth of exceptional persistence and serenity. Opoponax — an Ethiopian resin with slightly sweet, slightly balsamic, and slightly vanilla facets, very different from myrrh in its soothing dimension — is the material that transforms Wazamba's resinous depth into something warm and almost meditative. Wazamba is a perfume of introspection — one you wear when you need silence.

Wazamba is the perfume for those who know that the greatest elevations always begin with a moment of inner silence.

A word from Maison Diaphane

Wazamba is the Parfum d'Empire fragrance we recommend to those seeking a truly noble and geographically precise incense — not a generic accord, but raw materials named by their origin. The Somalian frankincense in the opening has remarkable clarity and dryness. The Kenyan myrrh in the heart possesses a richness and balsamic bitterness that immediately distinguish this perfume from conventional incenses. And the Ethiopian opoponax in the base is the sweetness that soothes everything — a resin that isn't named but recognized.

Learn more about Wazamba +

Wazamba Eau de Parfum by Parfum d'Empire is a woody resinous unisex fragrance created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato — independent perfumer, doctor in plant chemistry, and founder of Parfum d'Empire. It explores the great sacred resins of the Horn of Africa and India — Somalian frankincense, Kenyan myrrh, Ethiopian opoponax, Indian sandalwood — in a spiritual and profound composition of remarkable nobility and persistence. Available at Maison Diaphane, official retailer in Angers, for €132. Free delivery from €100 (in France).

Its olfactory pyramid is built around a resinous, balsamic, and deep Kenyan myrrh-olibanum-labdanum heart, preceded by a dry and slightly luminous Somalian frankincense-cypress opening, and extended by a soft, woody, and enveloping opoponax-Indian sandalwood-resins base. In Eau de Parfum, the composition unfolds all its sacred resinous depth and lasts 8 to 10 hours.

Wazamba is a spiritual and enveloping woody resinous fragrance with an intense sillage, ideal for evening wear and cold seasons, worn equally by women and men.

What is opoponax and how is it different from myrrh?

Opoponax — Commiphora guidottii — is a resin from Ethiopia and Somalia from the same family as myrrh, but with radically different facets. Where myrrh is bitter, slightly smoky, and austere, opoponax is sweet, slightly balsamic, slightly vanilla, and slightly fruity — sometimes called "sweet myrrh". In perfumery, it is used for its soothing and enveloping facets that temper the severity of resins and incenses. In Wazamba, it is what transforms the resinous depth of the heart into a warm and serene woody note rather than an austere intensity.

Why are the geographical origins specified — Somalian frankincense, Kenyan myrrh, Indian sandalwood?

Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, with his background as a doctor in plant chemistry, knows that the geographical origin of a raw material determines its chemical profile and thus its olfactory facets. Somalian frankincense is considered one of the purest in the world, with particularly citrusy and dry facets. Kenyan myrrh is renowned for its richness and the intensity of its balsamic facets. Indian sandalwood (Mysore) is creamier and milkier than Australian sandalwood. Naming the origins means trusting the client's intelligence — and guaranteeing verifiable botanical quality.

Does Wazamba smell like smoke, like burning incense?

No — and this is the essential nuance. Burning incense releases combustion molecules that give off that smoky, ash-like smell. Incense in perfumery is used raw — its facets are resinous, slightly citrusy, slightly woody, and slightly earthy, without the smoky dimension of combustion. Wazamba smells of incense as a precious resin, not as incense burning in a stick. This is a fundamental distinction that makes the composition wearable and elegant rather than ritualistic and heavy.

Which season is Wazamba made for?

Autumn and winter mainly, and all evenings. Its resinous depth and intense sillage flourish in cold weather and at night. It is a fragrance of introspection, of calm and meditative moments, of hushed evenings. In summer, its density may seem excessive. In winter, it is precisely the warmth one needs.
