Pharmacie des Bateliers, in Ingrandes – Le Fresne-sur-Loire (49), chose Diaphane Projects to create “Nuage”, a bespoke, delicate, and enveloping olfactory signature, designed to accompany its renovation and reconcile health and well-being.
In Ingrandes – Le Fresne-sur-Loire, the Pharmacie des Bateliers has recently completely redesigned its spaces. An ambitious renovation, guided by a clear objective: to offer every patient a modern, warm, and welcoming place — a space where one feels comfortable from the very first moments.
An atmosphere thought out in every detail
At the heart of this transformation was a strong desire to establish a new sensory experience, based on visual harmony, comfort, and fragrance. It was within this dynamic that Diaphane Projects was invited to create a custom olfactory signature, capable of complementing the pharmacy's identity and revealing its softness.
The choice fell on "Nuage," a delicate and enveloping fragrance. Discreet yet persistent, it creates a reassuring, almost cottony atmosphere that soothes upon entry and gently accompanies patients throughout their visit.
“During the renovation of my pharmacy, I wanted to create a unique experience for my patients. It was essential for me that the pharmacy be a pleasant place where everyone feels at ease. Meeting Marie-Sophie strengthened my desire to offer a sensory experience at the pharmacy and led me to work with Diaphane Projects. The "Nuage" fragrance offers a sensory and olfactory journey to patients, and the feedback has been very positive.”

Why fragrance is particularly important in a healthcare setting
A pharmacy is not like any other store. People sometimes go there feeling anxious, tired, or simply in a hurry — rarely in a relaxed state of mind. This reality imposes a particular requirement on any olfactory signature designed for a healthcare space: it must reassure without ever seeming artificial, soften without masking the professionalism of the place.
This is the whole challenge of a fragrance like "Nuage": to remain discreet enough never to interfere with the seriousness of pharmaceutical advice, while simultaneously establishing, from the first steps, a climate of trust and gentleness. Here, fragrance becomes a silent ally of care, just like lighting, layout, or staff welcome.
An olfactory identity at the service of well-being
In a healthcare setting, scent plays an essential role: it reassures, welcomes, and softens. Thanks to the diffusion of "Nuage," each visit to Pharmacie des Bateliers becomes a more serene, more human, more soothing moment. An atmosphere that accompanies care as much as it prepares for it.
This sensory continuity benefits both patients and the pharmacy team, who also work all day in this same peaceful atmosphere — a subtle but real benefit to working comfort at the counter.
Diffusion: a discreet presence adapted to a healthcare space
A pharmacy welcomes a very wide public — young children, the elderly, patients sometimes sensitive to strong odors. The diffusion of an olfactory signature in this type of space must therefore be particularly measured: present enough to create a recognizable atmosphere, never strong enough to be bothersome.
For Pharmacie des Bateliers, the diffusion of "Nuage" was calibrated to remain in the background, perceptible without being insistent, consistent from morning to closing, even during peak hours when the door constantly opens and closes.
This consistency is a technical point often underestimated: an olfactory signature that varies too much depending on the time or foot traffic loses coherence and therefore effectiveness. It is this regularity, as much as the choice of the fragrance itself, that builds lasting recognition of a place by its patients.
A still rare approach, but increasingly sought after in pharmacies
While olfactory marketing is well established in hospitality and retail, pharmacies are only just beginning to take an interest in it. Many pharmacists undertaking renovations focus on layout, lighting, and signage, but still overlook the olfactory dimension of their space — even though it fully contributes to the patient's overall perception of the place.
The case of Pharmacie des Bateliers illustrates a fundamental trend: pharmacists who want their pharmacy to no longer be perceived solely as a technical thoroughfare, but as a genuine space for well-being and support. A well-balanced olfactory signature can contribute to this as much as any other design choice.
This type of project remains rare precisely because it requires a keen understanding of the place, its clientele, and its health constraints — an approach more common in hotels or boutiques, but which finds equally relevant and largely unexplored ground in pharmacies.
