Why change your perfume with the seasons?

We often think that a perfume "is" what it smells like on the first spray. In reality, it lives. It transforms, diffuses, fades, clings, depending on the skin and the air around it.

The season changes the temperature, humidity, perspiration, clothing, and pace of life. And all of this changes how a perfume settles and unfolds. The same scent can become brighter in the sun, denser in the cold, livelier in dry weather, and rounder when the air is humid.

Heat: Stronger diffusion, faster evolution

In summer, heat increases volatility: top notes evaporate faster, the sillage can become more intense, sometimes too present, especially in enclosed spaces or at work.

We often notice stronger projection, accelerated evolution where the heart notes arrive quickly, and a more pronounced sensation of aromatic, citrus, or marine notes. This is the ideal season for colognes, citruses, transparent florals, greens, and clean musks: perfumes that breathe, accompany, and leave a clean trail without being overwhelming.

Cold: Slower longevity, "fuller" materials

In winter, cold air slows down diffusion: the perfume projects less, but it can cling longer to clothes and unfold more slowly on the skin.

We often observe a more muted opening, more stable longevity on fabric, and better enhancement of deep materials: resins, woods, musks, ambers, sometimes spices and leather. In this season, we often look for an enveloping presence, an olfactive warmth, a more intimate but durable signature.

Humidity, wind, clothing: The details that change everything

Beyond temperature, three elements transform the experience. Humidity rounds out diffusion: some florals become softer, some musks more "cocooning." Conversely, very dry air can make a perfume sharper.

Wind carries away the sillage: very airy perfumes can seem to "disappear," when they are simply diffusing differently, hence the interest in choosing a more legible structure by the sea or on a bike. Finally, clothes matter: in winter, we often perfume wool, cotton, scarves; in summer, we tend to apply perfume directly to the skin. But a perfume tells a different story on fabric than on skin.

How to adapt without "changing style"

The goal is not to have a random "summer" perfume and "winter" perfume. The goal is to remain true to your temperament, with an adjusted density.

• If you like woody scents in winter, look for a lighter woody scent in summer (clean woods, musks, green notes).
• If you like florals, keep the family, but switch from a dense floral to a more airy one.
• If you like characterful perfumes, keep the intention, but choose a more breathable structure in heat.
• If you are discreet, summer is often the perfect season: you can wear a fresher perfume, with very precise longevity.
